Brentford move for Archie Gray collapses as Leeds reject £40m bid amid Tottenham interest

Brentford’s attempt to sign Leeds midfielder Archie Gray has failed.

The 18-year-old has been booked for a medical after personal terms were agreed for a transfer worth £40million.

But Leeds rejected the Bees’ approach after failing to agree a final fee and payment structure.

Tottenham remain keenly interested in Gray following his breakout season at Elland Road, which earned him a debut for England Under-21s. Chelsea have also been keeping tabs on his recent progress.

It has been reported that Leeds are considering selling one or two of their key players as they failed to secure promotion back to the Premier League, with Crysencio Summerville also tipped to leave to help adhere to financial rules.

The collapse of the Gray deal leaves Brentford still hoping to bolster their midfield options this summer, having offloaded Shandon Baptiste.

Igor Thiago is set to arrive as the key summer signing to improve the attack in a £33m deal agreed in February. Ivan Toney has been linked with an exit.
