Leicester City confident Super Eagles star will sign new deal with contract still under discussion

Newly promoted EPL side Leicester City are confident that versatile Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi will sign a new contract with the club, reports Soccernet.ng.

The 27-year-old joined the Foxes in 2017, winning the FA Cup and Community Shield with Brendan Rodgers in 2021 before lifting the EFL Championship trophy with Enzo Maresca in 2024.

Just like his Nigerian teammate – Kelechi Iheanacho, Ndidi’s contract at the King Power Stadium expired at the end of last month, having rejected several extension offers from the club. The Super Eagles midfielder was linked to several clubs as he is now a free agent.

According to The telegraphThe 2016 Premier League winners are in talks with Ndidi as their offer remains on the table for the former Genk player, and Leicester are increasingly confident of reaching an agreement.

Former Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper was appointed Leicester manager on June 20 and is keen to secure his transfer targets before the start of the Premier League season.

The Foxes have already agreed terms with young Atalanta defender Caleb Okoli and Fulham’s Jamaican winger Bobby De Cordova-Reid.

Leicester were accused of breaching the Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) in March and are facing the prospect of a points deduction in the English top flight. That explains why they are keen to keep Ndidi rather than splash out more money in the transfer market.

Kelechi Iheanacho, on the other hand, is yet to make an official announcement about his future as far as club football is concerned next season. He has been linked with Nottingham Forest and Aston Villabut nothing concrete happened.
