‘Deal breaker’ sees A Place in the Sun couple reject dream home in Spain

On Monday’s episode of Um Lugar ao Sol, a couple rejected their “perfect” home due to an unexpected “problem.”

Property expert Jean Johansson was guiding Sally, a former midwife, and Phil, from the brewing trade, around Spain’s beautiful Costa Blanca on the Channel 4 property show.

The couple were looking to sell their Welsh property and wanted a comfortably sized property for their retirement. Key elements on their wish list were adequate space to host their family and privacy from nosy neighbours, the Mirror reports.

Jean lined up five potential homes within the £220,000 budget. Initially, everything went well, with Sally and Phil attracted to the first two properties they viewed. But the mood changed when they saw the last house.

Set in a beautiful nature reserve and surrounded by greenery, this three-bedroom home priced at just over £215,000 boasted generous outdoor areas, complete with a barbecue area and swimming pool. However, despite these attractive features, Phil had one problem: its hilltop location.

Phil was put off by the idea of ​​walking up and down the hill every time he left or came back. He flagged this as the “deal breaker”, prompting them to promptly discard the house.

After viewing the property, Jean asked, “Is this a competitor?” To which Phil looked dismayed and replied, “No. No, unfortunately not, we’ve ruled that out.”

As for why, he shared, “It’s that big, steep hill out there, I don’t like walking up and down the city. It’s not for us.” While they passed on the last property, the couple were undecided about two vacation homes. Phil told the host, “It’s been exciting and we have a lot to think about.”
