Journalist believes Tonali will leave Newcastle ‘in 2-3 years’ and return to Milan as captain

Carlo Pellegatti has revealed his belief that Sandro Tonali will return to Milan at some point in the not too distant future and will captain the team.

The 2023 summer window has started in turbulent fashion for the Rossoneri, with Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara both being sacked as directors, leaving a new management duo in CEO Giorgio Furlani and chief scout Geoffrey Moncada.

They reassured key players about the strength of the project and the desire to build, but then their first big decision was to sell fan favourite Tonali when Newcastle came calling with a huge offer they didn’t believe they could refuse.

According to Fabrizio Romano among other sources, the midfielder joined the Magpies for €70m including bonuses and is earning €9m net per season for six years. It is a sale that has certainly generated an interesting spectrum of reactions.

Pellegatti spoke on his YouTube channel about Tonali, as he will soon return to the pitch after serving his playing ban, and made a rather bold prediction, with his comments relayed by PianetaMilan.

“In a month, we will celebrate Sandrino Tonali’s return to the pitch. In my opinion, in 2-3 years, when he is still very young, Tonali will continue his career at Milan. That’s my idea. In my opinion, in 3 or 4 years Tonali will be the captain of Milan,” he said.
