Leeds United ‘plan’ summer transfer raid for Borussia Dortmund man on one condition

Leeds United have registered their interest in signing Borussia Dortmund full-back Marius Wolf, according to Sky Deutschland. It is claimed that the Whites enquired about the 28-year-old’s availability ahead of the summer transfer window.

Reports in Germany say Wolf will be a “serious option” for United if they secure promotion back to the Premier League. The Whites go toe-to-toe with Southampton in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Sunday, kick-off at 3pm.

It will be the Whites’ first visit to the national stadium in 16 years. United have failed to win the play-offs in five previous attempts.

Defensive reinforcements are on the cards regardless of which division the Whites are operating in next season. Long-serving duo Luke Ayling and Liam Cooper are set to leave Elland Road when their contracts expire at the end of June. Archie Gray, a midfielder by trade, has often lined up on the right side of the back four but is likely to be utilised more centrally next year, while there are question marks surrounding Junior Firpo’s long-term future.

Wolf, who can be deployed as a right-back or right-back, has made six Champions League appearances for Dortmund this season in their run to the final. The Germany international has racked up 121 appearances since joining the club in 2018.

But Wolf’s current deal expires after the conclusion of the 2023/24 season. As well as the Whites, clubs from Spain, Italy and Saudi Arabia are interested in the defender.
