Manchester United make decision on former Leicester City player Jonny Evans’ contract

Former Leicester City defender Jonny Evans has signed a new contract with Manchester United.

The defender spent five years at the King Power Stadium and made over 150 appearances. At 35, it was thought he could be retiring when his contract with the Foxes expired last summer.

However, he returned to Man Utd, where he started as a trainee before moving to West Brom, and made 30 appearances last season, battling a backdrop of serious defensive injuries.

United boss Erik ten Hag clearly liked what he saw and rewarded the Northern Ireland international with another season-long deal, which will keep him at Old Trafford beyond his 37th birthday.

“I am delighted to have extended my contract with Manchester United for another season,” he told the Man Utd website. “Playing for this great club and feeling the support of our incredible fans is always a privilege.

“Returning to the club last season was an honour; representing the team on the pitch alongside fantastic team-mates under an excellent manager. Winning the FA Cup together was an unforgettable experience; I know we can challenge for more trophies next season.”
