Paddington delays for Elizabeth Line, Heathrow Express and Glastonbury fans resolved

Travelers in west London, including music fans heading to the Glastonbury Festival, faced long delays on Thursday after a person was hit by a train.

Elizabeth Line, Great Western Railway (GWR) and Heathrow Express services suffered long delays and cancellations after all lines were closed between London Paddington and Heathrow Airport, as well as to Reading.

GWR said all lines were blocked at West Ealing on Thursday morning due to “emergency services dealing with an incident close to the railway”.

The lines have now been reopened and services returned to normal after 3pm.

The incident affected services to and from London Paddington, which is on the route serving Castle Cary, the closest station to Glastonbury Festival.

Hannah Yates, 28, from north London, who was booked on a train with four friends, told PA: “I went up to (a member of staff) and they said there had been a fatality on the line and to wait 45 minutes, so we’re waiting for the next announcement.

“It’s frustrating, I would say.

“This was already a stressful enough day, so this just makes it worse.”

Another festival-goer, who gave his name as Zac, said: “We got the Elizabeth line here and they cancelled the Elizabeth line to Heathrow so we were suspicious.

“We’re still looking forward to it – a few hours won’t make a difference over the whole weekend.”
