Liam Cooper transfer is the latest as Leeds United player faces transfer stalemate at Blackburn Rovers

Liam Cooper’s talks with Blackburn Rovers continue as the Leeds United club captain moves closer to an exit from Elland Road. Despite being offered a new one-year contract by Leeds, Cooper is expected to leave the Whites this summer in an effort to play more minutes after falling significantly down the pecking order under manager Daniel Farke.

The 32-year-old was just a bit player last season as Leeds pushed for a return to the Premier League and knows that will be the case once again next campaign if he extends his stay at Leeds to an 11th year. Cooper has not turned down Leeds’ offer and could end up staying at a club he joined in 2004 from Chesterfield, but the quest to play more in the latter years of his career is a driving force.

Blackburn Rovers could offer the Scot that opportunity, but while Cooper is prepared to take a pay cut to move to Ewood Park, it is understood he is seeking a commitment beyond a one-year deal like the one Leeds have offered him.

Sun journalist Alan Nixon says the current length of the contract offered to Cooper by Blackburn is a sticking point that has so far prevented a deal from being agreed. Blackburn only want to offer Cooper a one-year deal, Nixon says, with Cooper pushing for a two-year contract if he joins Rovers. Blackburn could offer Cooper a one-year deal with a second-year clause based on appearances, but after a series of injury problems, Cooper may seek a stronger commitment to get the deal done.
