What happened in Cardiff City’s pre-season friendly against KV Kortrijk

Cardiff City beat KV Kortrijk 3-1 in their second pre-season game.

The match, which took place at the Cardiff International Sports Campus, saw goals from Isaak Davies (penalty), Jamilu Collins and Rubin Colwill.

The Bluebirds’ first pre-season game ended in a 1-0 defeat to Kidderminster Harriers in midweek, which represented a step up in terms of the level of opposition for Erol Bulut’s men.

The Turkish boss has named a strong starting XI for the clash, with Aaron Ramsey, Callum O’Dowda and Mark McGuinness all starting from the start.

The home side fell behind to their Belgian visitors, with Takuro Kaneko scoring just after the half-hour mark.

But the hosts quickly had an opportunity to equalise when Davies was brought down in the penalty area just a minute later. The Welshman converted and the score remained 1-1 at the break.

Bulut made changes in the turnaround, with Rubin Colwill, Joe Ralls and Callum Robinson among others joining the fray.

Collins, who was also introduced at half-time, gave Cardiff the lead in the 55th minute, firing home from close range following a Ralls corner and a Mark McGuinness knockdown. On the hour mark, Bulut made further changes to the personnel, with Joel Bagan and Kion Etete coming on for the final 30 minutes.

And it was the latter who fed Rubin Colwill for City’s third goal with just under 10 minutes to play. All in all, it was a good workout for Bulut and Co.

The Bluebirds are back in action on Tuesday when they host Penybont at the same venue (7.30pm).
